Infrared Thermal Imaging
Thermography inspections are conducted with an IR (infrared) designated camera. This heat-sensitive photographic process captures subtle temperature differences in underlying surfaces. These images can provide a wealth of useful clues for a surveyor like Steven Uhthoff, who is experienced at analyzing Infrared Imaging:
- Hull and Deck – Infrared imaging can indicate water intrusion areas and pinpoint delamination within the laminate or coring material.
- Carbon Fiber, Kevlar Composite – IR imaging is often used on exotic composite vessels due to conductive material which renders moisture meters ineffective. IR imaging can accurately pinpoint laminate deficiencies and moisture intrusion points.
- Engine – Thermal imaging can also be applied to motors as they are run during seatrial. Excessive hot spots in the engine block or cooling system often reveal internal engine problems that could cause future failures.
- Electric Panel – “Hot spots” here indicate faulty electrical connections and poor breakers that could overheat and catch fire.
Please be sure to give us adequate advance notice if IR imagery is desired. Additional fees for infrared inspections will apply and vary depending upon the job. Please call for a quote.
